4th of March 2015
This week I have been practicing a lot at home, on the
street and even on public transport. Our rehearsal time at school has come to
an end, and we are now watching our peer’s recitals. In my opinion helps me
because I can look at how they perform and see if I can adapt it to my own
performance. For example how I may use the stage or announce my next piece etc.
all of this is significant information to look at, as it can help me feel more
confident in my performance, for me to know what I am doing!
In regards to rehearsals I have started everyday with my
usual 10min warm up which starts with a simple breathing exercise and then goes
to something with scales. After I warm up I would simply run my song for timing
and technique, ensuring I know when I want to breathe etc. With me I find
timing can be hard, however I don’t let this hold me back, I constantly work on
the songs so I know what is coming next in a phrase. I find the more repetitive
I get, the better it sinks in.
I feel like I am getting more confident in my songs, the
more I know them, the more I can perform. I am now standing in front of the
mirror and singing my songs so I can see what I may be doing wrong or how I
could adjust my performance to make it better and more entertaining for those
who audiences. By doing this I saw myself letting go (not vocally) and just
putting more energy in what I was doing, however I also saw how I needed to
rein it in for some songs, especially the ones that convey more emotion.
For this final week I am going to work spending some time
singing my whole set through, start from beginning with me introducing them.
This will help me get ready for the real thing and also bring my confidence
more into the performance
Overall this week has be good for me, I feel like I am using
the time to my advantage. I feel like each week I am getting more prepared for
my recital. However I still need to learn all my lyrics for 1 song, so that is
another thing to focus on this week. Hopefully I will be performance ready by
the end of next week!
